About The Exercise Blueprint

The Exercise Blueprint’s mission is to give EVERYONE the resources they need to feel confident in the gym. We provide clear, concise, easy-to-follow exercise guides so that you don’t have to question what you’re doing in the gym (or at home!).

Welcome to The Exercise Blueprint! My name is Matt Walter and I’ve spent the better part of the last 30 years (that sounds crazy to say out loud!) in gyms of one type or another. Exercising is what I do.

Our website is dedicated to providing a comprehensive exercise video and tutorial library. With step-by-step instructions on how to perform various barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, odd-object, and band exercises, our library is perfect for both beginners and experienced athletes alike.

Our team of experienced personal trainers has created video demonstrations for each exercise, so you can be confident that you’re performing each movement safely and effectively.

My weightlifting and fitness journey started at 12 (after I’d already been involved in every sport under the sun for 7 years) when my dad finally got me my first gym membership. He was a coach and taught me how to move, listen to my body, and that form comes first…always!

I then got the opportunity to work with a local gym owner and state champion powerlifter. He continued to work with my form and taught me how to program and peak for meets. Fun story…he’s now my father-in-law!

After studying Food Science and Human Nutrition at Washington State University, including a semester working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the WSU Athletic Department, I took a job with 24-Hour Fitness as a Personal Trainer.

I trained for several years before accepting a position as the Fitness Manager with Oz Fitness. Fun job. I got to continue training clients while also making sure all of our trainers had plenty of people to work with. Helped a lot of people reach their goals, which was awesome.

I made the decision to go back to school and complete my master’s degree. Two more long years of school, sleepless nights, and full days training clients and going to class. But it was worth it!

I moved to training clients online in 2015, and I love every second of it! During this time I continued to increase my nutrition knowledge and became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist.

But I want to help more people than I have time for. That’s why I’ve built this site!

Maybe you bought an exercise program but you don’t know how to do some of the exercises correctly. Or even what some of them are!

Maybe you saw an exercise in a fitness magazine and really want to try it, but you’d really like more detail about how to do it.

Maybe you’re just starting out and want to make sure you’re doing exercises the right way, or maybe you’ve been training for 20 years but want to add some new exercises to switch things up.

The Exercise Blueprint is here to help! Every article has detailed, step-by-step instructions, pictures, videos, and explanations so you can read and see exactly how to perform the exercise you’re looking for.

Even though I’ve been well trained and have worked as a Certified Personal Trainer and Strength Coach for more than 15 years, I don’t pretend to know everything. I know my limitations!

Luckily for me my brother and his wife are physical therapists! Any article that has to do with rehabilitation or injury prevention has been written and medically reviewed by them.

ALL the content we will publish on this site has been written or overseen by a Certified Personal Trainer or Physical Therapist.

Incredibly knowledgable people took me under their wing when I was first learning, and every step along the way for the past 30 years. I aim to be that resource for you.

The Exercise Blueprint will grow to be the most comprehensive, detailed, trustworthy exercise site on the internet.

I hope to succeed in this mission. I will give it my best shot because you deserve to have all of the resources and knowledge you need to enjoy the benefits of living an active lifestyle.
